Programs for Communities - Economic Development
Upper Peninsula Power Company offers a variety of programs and services that have been
proven to help communities develop their economic potential. In addition to the programs
listed here, we are also available to work cooperatively with communities in support of
their efforts.
- Business Retention/Expansion Program - The loss of a key employer can have a devastating impact on a community. This program
shows communities how to develop effective, ongoing plans for retaining their existing
business base and encouraging local expansion.
- Community Strategic Planning Assistance - Strategic plans define a vision and goals for a community's economic development
efforts. We can offer our expertise in helping to develop and implement a thorough
analysis, long-term strategy and effective action plan.
- Industrial Park Assistance - Industrial parks can attract new business and encourage local expansion. We help
communities with feasibility studies, and provide assistance in identifying the energy
services required in their park.
- Speculative Building Assistance - In communities throughout our service area, we have helped in developing speculative
facilities that offer high potential for occupancy. Our assistance has included design
and financing, as well as marketing and management.
- New Prospect Handling - We are eager to work with communities to help them meet the needs of their own economic
development prospects. Further, when Upper Peninsula Power gets direct inquiries from
prospects, we will work in partnership with the communities these prospects have identified
as being able to meet their specific needs.
- Cost of Living Studies - A cost-of-living analysis facilitates comparisons and helps provide a professional
response to inquiries from business development prospects. We will share the cost of
developing and maintaining accurate cost-of-living studies.
- Community Profiles - Our Community Profiles are excellent tools for promoting
the local quality of life and business environments. We maintain statistical data for
many of the communities we serve, and will help them use this information to create their
own profiles.
