If you are interested in installing your own electric generating system — such as a wind turbine, solar system or biogas system — you need to follow several steps to "interconnect" to the UPPCO electric distribution system.

The following information will guide you through the required steps and requirements to ensure everybody's safety.

For Systems 20kW Or Less (Category 1 Projects)

  1. Start the Interconnection Process.
Contact Daniel Martin at 920-433-1592 or DEMartin@wisconsinpublicservice.com to review your project.
  2. Review the rates & requirements.

  3. Complete the interconnection application.
Submit the completed application and application fee, to: Daniel Martin, UPPCO, P.O. Box 19001, Green Bay, WI 54307-9001.

  4. Review interconnection options & costs.
After the completed application is received, we will contact you to discuss the interconnection options available and their associated costs.
  5. Install generator.
Together, we will determine an agreed-upon timeframe in which your generating equipment will need to be installed. After installation, we will perform any work needed to upgrade our distribution system to accommodate your system.
  6. Complete the interconnection and operating agreement.
Submit the completed Interconnection & Parallel Operating Agreement to: Daniel Martin, UPPCO, P.O. Box 19001, Green Bay, WI 54307-9001.
  7. Have your generating system inspected.
Before electric generation can begin, UPPCO will need to receive proof of approval from the local building or electrical code inspector. With this approval, we will complete the interconnection.

For Systems More Than 20kW

  1. Start the interconnection process.
Contact Alese Mauermann at 920-433-4937 or AGMauermann@wisconsinpublicservice.com to review your project.
  2. Complete the interconnection application and operating agreement.
Submit the completed application and application fee to: Alese Mauermann, UPPCO, P.O. Box 19001, Green Bay, WI 54307-9001.

  3. Determine if distribution study is needed.
After the completed application is received, we will determine if a distribution study is needed to further assess your system's impact on our electric grid. Your written authorization, and the applicable fee, will be needed to complete the study.
  4. Review interconnection options & costs.
We will contact you to discuss the interconnection options available and their associated costs.
  5. Installation generator.
Together, we will determine an agreed-upon timeframe in which your generating equipment will need to be installed. We will perform any work needed to upgrade our distribution system to accommodate your system.
  6. System Testing.
After installation is complete, UPPCO must be notified and given the opportunity to witness or verify the system testing, which could include:

    • Witnessing commissioning tests;
    • Performing anti-islanding tests; or
    • Verifying the protective equipment settings
