Paul D. Ziemer Scholarship

Named in honor of a former Wisconsin Public Service CEO, this scholarship recognizes a student majoring in business or engineering at the University of Wisconsin - Madison.

Please note: Applicants that have completed an application for the College Scholarship and are planning to attend University of Wisconsin - Madison and major in Business or Engineering will also automatically be considered for the Paul D. Ziemer scholarship and need make no further application.

Qualifications

Applicants must:

  • Be the son/daughter of a customer with a primary residence in Wisconsin Public Service Corporation or Upper Peninsula Power Company territory, or the son/daughter of a Wisconsin Public Service or UPPCO employee.
     
  • Complete his or her high school graduation requirements in the 2007-2008 academic year.
     
  • Enter college by September 2008.
     
  • Be in the upper 10% of his or her graduation class (scholastically).

Awards

This is a $2,000 scholarship, renewable annually.

How to Apply

Applicants for this scholarship must:

  • Complete the online application for the College Scholarship.
  • Indicate their interest in attending the UW - Madison.
  • Indicate their interest in a business or engineering major.

Notification

Recipients and alternates will be notified beginning in April, and each scholarship award will become effective when the student is enrolled in college. The scholarship award will be sent directly to the college and will be credited to the recipient's account.

Recipients of the Ziemer scholarship who continue to make satisfactory progress toward a degree in Engineering or Business and are in good standing at UW-Madison will retain the scholarship for four years or until receiving a bachelor's degree, whichever comes first. The award may be reduced or eliminated if the financial assistance received by the student exceeds the total cost of education.

If a recipient's studies are interrupted by illness, accident or other extenuating circumstances, a student can request that the scholarship be held for later use.
