Questions and Answers

  • Who do I call if there is an electric outage, emergency or service problem?
  • You call Upper Peninsula Power Company just as you do today.
  • Who do I call if I have a question on my bill?
  • Call the toll-free phone number listed on your bill.
  • Will the service to my home or business be affected?
  • No. Upper Peninsula Power Company will still provide you with the same reliable service you have received in the past, including operating and maintaining the power lines and facilities that deliver electricity to you.
  • Will my local utility continue to read my meter?
  • Yes, meter reading will continue to be part of the customer service you receive from Upper Peninsula Power Company.
  • What is an interval meter and will I need one?
  • An interval meter is used to record how much energy is being used at any given time. This is measured in kilowatts (kW), usually in 15-minute or half-hour increments. Larger business customers may find it helpful to install interval meters to help them understand and make energy buying decisions. There is a charge to install interval metering equipment.
  • What is "load profiling?"
  • A load profile is a graphic of average energy use for a specific type of customer. If you do not have an interval meter, your energy supplier will use a load profile to estimate your energy use. The load profile uses weather, time-of-day and day-of-week factors to calculate average use.
