If you are interested in installing your own electric generating system — such as a wind turbine, solar system or biogas system — you need to follow several steps to “interconnect” to the UPPCO electric distribution system.

The following information will guide you through the required steps and requirements to ensure everybody’s safety.

Category 1 and 2 Projects

For Systems 20kW Or Less or 20kW to 150 kW

Category 1 Closed to New Enrollments

As of July 22, 2016 the cap for Category 1 has been reached. Subsequently, UPPCO is no longer able to enroll new customers in the program. If you have any questions, please contact Dave Puskala at 906-485-2427 or dpuskala@uppco.com

1. Start the Interconnection Process.
Contact Dave Puskala at 906-485-2427 or dpuskala@uppco.com to review your project.

2. Review the rates & requirements.

3. Complete the interconnection application.
Submit the completed application and application fee, to: Dave Puskala, UPPCO, 500 North Washington St., Ishpeming, MI 49849.

See the “documents” section below for Category 1 & 2 Applications.

4. Review interconnection options & costs.
After the completed application is received, we will contact you to discuss the interconnection options available and their associated costs.

5. Install generator.
Together, we will determine an agreed-upon timeframe in which your generating equipment will need to be installed. After installation, we will perform any work needed to upgrade our distribution system to accommodate your system.

6. Complete the interconnection and operating agreement.
Submit the completed Interconnection & Parallel Operating Agreement to: UPPCO Dave Puskala, UPPCO, 500 North Washington St., Ishpeming, MI 49849.

See the “documents” section below for Interconnection & Operating Agreement.

7. Have your generating system inspected.
Before electric generation can begin, UPPCO will need to receive proof of approval from the local building or electrical code inspector. With this approval, we will complete the interconnection.
