Customer-Owned Generation Program

The customer-owned generation program is divided into levels 1 through 5 based upon the size or output of your generator. The eligible generator sizes, requirements, and processes of each category are detailed in this section.

 

Distributed Generation Program

The Distributed Generation program enables residential and commercial customers (Levels 1–3) to connect eligible renewable energy systems to UPPCO’s distribution system. This allows participants to lower the amount of electricity they purchase and earn credit for any excess energy they generate.

This program is intended for your generator offsets the electric needs of your home or business, up to 110% of your historical 12-month usage.

  1. Submit an application to UPPCO. Applications should be approved before proceeding.
  2. Install your system
  3. Perform commissioning test and inspection
  4. Sign Interconnection Agreement
  5. UPPCO swaps your meter and you are enrolled in the Distributed Generation program
How much electricity can I produce?

It will depend on your electricity needs. Distributed Generation is intended to offset your annual electricity use. The renewable energy system is allowed a generation capacity no more than 110% of the customer's electricity consumption for the previous 12 months and does not exceed 550 kW of aggregate generation at a single site.
