Temporary Closure Planned for Boney Falls Boat Launch on June 2nd
May 27, 2025 | Press Releases
Marquette, MI – Upper Peninsula Power Company (UPPCO) will temporarily close its boat launch at Dam No. 4 on the Boney Falls Reservoir on Monday, June 2, 2025, to support planned maintenance and facility improvements taking place this summer. While the campground near Dam No. 4 will remain open, visitors may experience intermittent delays due to construction activities.
“We’re asking the public to avoid the Boney Falls boat launch on June 2,” said Dan Freeborn, Manager of Communications and External Affairs. “Crews will be assembling a construction barge and staging materials for upcoming work. For public safety, we recommend using the boat launch near Dam No. 3 on the Escanaba River as an alternative.”
Although this closure is for June 2, additional construction is scheduled Monday through Friday, from June 3 to October 1, and may cause short-term delays in access to the Boney Falls launch site and campground. UPPCO reminds the public to be safe when recreating near hydroelectric facilities and to obey all posted warning signs.
UPPCO is the Upper Peninsula’s largest electric utility serving approximately 52,000 customers across 4,460 square miles. UPPCO and its predecessors have excelled at providing dependable service and safe, reliable energy to its valued customers for more than 135 years.
